Kappa Alpha Psi Founded at Indiana University
On January 5, 1911, ten founders led by Elder Watson Diggs chartered Kappa Alpha Psi at Indiana University, creating a brotherhood built on the principle of achievement in every field of human endeavor.
The Name Becomes Kappa Alpha Psi
The Fraternity originally bore the name Kappa Alpha Nu. It was changed to Kappa Alpha Psi to more fully reflect the Greek-letter identity that endures today.
Founding Member of the National Pan-Hellenic Council
Kappa Alpha Psi became a founding member of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, the enduring coalition of the Divine Nine historically African American fraternities and sororities.
Tri-Cities Alumni Chapter Installed
The Tri-Cities Alumni Chapter was installed, extending the bond of Kappa Alpha Psi to the communities of Bristol, Kingsport, and Johnson City, Tennessee.
Chapter Service Programs Take Root
The chapter launched its community service agenda in Northeast Tennessee, including youth mentorship, local outreach partnerships, and a scholarship fund for area students.
